Does Valium work better than Ativan for fear of flying?

I have a horrible fear of flying. I tried Ativan (2mg) for it before but it didn’t work at all. A friend suggested Valium. Does it work better? I would like to get knocked out, if possible.

  1. Jody says:

They are both benzodiazepines, they both bind to the GABA receptors, they are both strong, highly addictive hypnotics.

Initially Ativan (lorazepam) is more potent than Valium (diazepam).

    Equivalent doses: Ativan – 1 mg = Valium – 5mg
Half life Ativan – 10-20 hours; Valium – 100 hours
Onset of action: Ativan – 1-3 hours; Valium – less than 1 hour
Metabolites: Ativan – inactive; Valium – active
Metabolism: Ativan – conjugation; Valium – oxidation
