Is it easy to get prescribed Xanax or Ativan?

I have Bipolar II and I’ve been having lots of anxiety lately. I’m on Celexa and Lamictal. I’ve been on Lexapro, Zoloft, and Effexor for depression and anxiety. None have helped with my anxiety issue. What about Xanax or Ativan?

Chosen Answer:

I’m bipolar with social anxiety and I got Ativan to use not on a regular basis, but just when I need it, when I can tell I’m going to lose it. If the Celexa isn’t helping the anxiety, talk to your doctor. If you’re not at high risk for addiction it shouldn’t be a problem, but the less you take, the better because it is very physically addictive.

i have panic disorder and the zoloft has finally started working but when it didnt a xanax chilled me out instantly. im only taking .5mg tabs but the xanax in general from my pill popping days is amazingly powerful and completely blanks my thoughts, so it might work. Ask your prescriber about it or just say you have panic attacks too :)

They would probably help with the anxiety–but doctors are hesitant to prescribe them–particularly for any length of time. So, no, it’s not easy to get prescribed Xanax or Ativan (which is in the same family as Valium–something you won’t get easily either).

They are very addicting, and if you run out–you are in for serious withdrawal–even seizures, possibly. Besides that, some people need more and more of the Xanax… to do the same job as less once did.

You should consult with the physician that prescribed the antidepressant meds.
